KUALA LUMPUR: Mesdaq-listed Scan Associates Bhd (SCAN) will be the first Mimos technology business partner following an agreement made on Nov 29.

SCAN will focus on distributing and marketing Mimos's products, which include the Secure Electronic Document System (SEDS) and Certificate Authority Engine for MyKad (CA4MyKad).

SCAN group chief executive officer Aminuddin Baki Esa said, "We expect SEDS to be commercialised at the beginning of 2008. There has been strong interest from a number of our clients, both locally and overseas, regarding the product. We also plan to license the solution to our overseas partners for their domestic purposes."

SEDS, whose application complements some of SCAN's core security technologies (such as MatrixNet and TRUSTMatrix), will target not just enterprises but also mobile platforms or devices. MatrixNet and TRUSTMatrix provided margins of at least 30% for SCAN in past financial years.

CA4MyKad consists of digital certificate technology which can be embedded in each MyKad for secure electronic transactions by authenticating transacting parties' signatures over the Web. CA4MyKad's potential applications include lodging police reports, online transactions and sending and receiving confidential documents.

Royalties received from SCAN's partners was to add to the Group's bottom line as recurring income. The pricing structure was being finalised by SCAN, and would depend on the info-structure that the client wishes to secure.

"SCAN plans to continuously commercialise other technologies from Mimos, and provide technology enhancement to these products via our own R&D centre. We are confident the commercialisation of SEDS and MyKad will contribute positively to SCAN's future revenue and profitability," added Aminuddin.
